🚗 Important Changes in Vehicle Modifications and Type Approvals in Germany
Vehicle modifications in Germany are strictly regulated, and significant changes are currently underway:
🔹 Phasing Out of Component Reports (Teilegutachten)
Previously, technical services could issue so-called component reports (Teilegutachten) for modifications. However, these will be discontinued and can only be used for vehicle inspections until 2028.
🔹 Introduction of National Type Approval
Replacing component reports is the national type approval for components under §22 StVZO, ensuring a higher level of safety for end customers. This is no longer just a test report but a true type approval issued by the German type-approval authority, the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA).
🔹 Manufacturer’s Initial Assessment: The First Step
To apply for type approval at the KBA, manufacturers must first successfully pass a Manufacturer’s Initial Assessment, which evaluates:
✅ Quality assurance in production
✅ Compliance of production (CoP) processes
