🔎 Headlamp testing for individual vehicle approvals
For individual vehicle approvals according to Article 44 or 45 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858, the low beam headlamps must be tested.
The requirements regarding light distribution and color are verified in line with UN ECE Regulation No. 112 or 149.
Since many modern headlamps can only be operated via the vehicle BUS and not just directly with a 12-volt power supply, the lamps are tested while still connected to the vehicle using extension harnesses. This means the vehicle is positioned next to the test hall, and the headlamp is measured on the photogoniometer.
These specialized tests are carried out by our partner laboratory PHOTOMETRIK GmbH, one of the few laboratories in Europe capable of performing this setup.
Most recently, we tested the headlamps of a Ford Lincoln import vehicle that was not originally intended for the European market and therefore lacked type-approved headlamps from the manufacturer.
💡 As a KBA-designated Technical Service, ALEE ensures together with its partner laboratories that such challenging cases can be brought into compliance with the European approval requirements.
