Did you know that retro-reflectors are tested and type-approved based on their specific application and that they bear symbols for identification? Our partner lab PHOTOMETRIK GmbH, part of ALEE’s Technical Service designated by the German Type-Approval Authority (KBA), specializes in testing reflectors in accordance with UN ECE Regulation 150.
For motor vehicles and trailers, these symbols are:
• IA: Retro-reflector for motor vehicles (independent from other lamps)
• IB: Rear retro-reflector for motor vehicles (combined with non-watertight signal lamps)
• IIIA: Triangular retro-reflector for trailers (independent)
• IIIB: Triangular rear retro-reflector for trailers (combined with non-watertight signal lamps)
• IVA: Wide-angle rear retro-reflector
🔦 In Germany, retro-reflectors for bicycles must be type-approved under §22a StVZO. These so-called type Z retro-reflectors must be especially powerful, reflecting more light than those for vehicles in accordance with UN ECE R150.
