🚗 Important Changes for German National Individual Vehicle Approvals to Meet EU Standards 🌍
With the 56th amendment to the German Regulation StVZO that came into effect on June 20, 2024, national individual approvals must comply with the applicable EU construction regulations for each vehicle class by October 31, 2024.
Previously, national regulations could be used as an alternative for national individual approvals. Depending on the vehicle class, this could mean an increase in testing requirements for individual vehicle approvals. The aim is to ensure that individually approved vehicles meet EU standards, especially in terms of safety and environmental protection.
The requirements are detailed in the following EU framework regulations:
– Passenger cars, buses, trucks, and trailers (M, N, O classes): Annex II of EU Regulation 2018/858.
– Agricultural and forestry tractors, trailers, and interchangeable towed equipment (T, C, R, S classes): Annex I of EU Regulation 167/2013.
– Two-wheel and light three- and four-wheel vehicles (L class): Annex II of EU Regulation 168/2013.
Only a few vehicle types, such as self-propelled working machines, mobility scooters, and other motor vehicles not covered by the aforementioned regulations, are not yet harmonized within the EU. For these vehicles, purely national regulations are often still applied.
